European Championship 25, 50, 300m, Shotgun, RT, Europe YOG Qualification · Baku, AZE
Germany, Russian Federation and Serbia claimed two quotas each, while Belarus, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Hungary and Italy took one. Twelve more slots will be delivered at the 2018 10m European Championship in Gyor (HUN).
Twelve Youth Olympic Games quota places have been delivered at the ongoing European Championship in Baku (AZE).

The slots are part of an 80-quota package that will be gradually assigned through a series of continental and international competitions: four of them have already been distributed at the African Championship held in Cairo (EGY) last April and May.

Out of a total of 80 YOG quotas, 14 will be assigned at this year’s Asian Championship in Wako City (JPN); four more at the Oceania Championship taking place in Gold Coast (AUS) next October and November; and 12 at the 2018 European Championship in Gyor (HUN). Twenty-four of them will be delivered by the International Olympic Committee, while the last two belong to the host country Argentina.

Greek Artemis Kaefalidou became the new European Champion in Skeet Women Junior Event.

ONE NEW WORLD RECORD AND 16 CLAYS SHOOT OFF IN SKEET EVENTS

Sunday’s last two shotgun events were Skeet Women Junior and Skeet Women competitions. After a long and hot, windy day the athletes came last time together to the finals. The wind blew as rough as in the morning but didn’t look to disturb the Women Juniors. Greek Artemis Kaefalidou showed her skill by winning the European Championship with final result 46 which is a new World and European Record. She beat Russian Elena Bukhonova by 3 clays. Third was Italian Francesca Del Prete with result of 35 clays.

The Team competition of Skeet Women Junior was won by Italy (182). The Italian team consisted of Fransesca Del Prete (69), Giada Longhi (59) and Giulia Basso (54).

After Women Juniors final competed the Skeet Women Final. From the qualification the place to the Final had achieved following athletes: Aleksandra Jarmolinska(POL) was the best with result 69. German Christine Wenzel and Italian Diana Bacosi hit 68 clays. Panagiota Andreou (CYP), Andri Eleftheriou (CYP), Lucie Anastassiou (FRA) hit 67 clays.

In the Final the first who surprisingly dropped out, was multi medallist Diana Bacosi from Italy. The second unlucky was Panagiota Andreou who dropped out. It looked that Aleksandra Jarmolinska would be one of the medallists but then she missed from seven clays six and dropped out.

Only the medallists were now left: Wenzel, Eleftheriou and Anastassiou. Wenzel fought well but then missed twice in the important moment and it was her turn to drop out, but bronze “in the pocket”. When all the clays had been shot the situation between Lucie Anastassiou had come to the equal result with leading Andri Eleftheriou. Both had hit 50 clays, so it was needed a shoot off.

The audience got a dramatic shoot off which lasted until 16 clays. French Lucie Anastassiou hits the target and Andri Eleftheriou misses.

After the long and hard day French Lucie Anastassiou was crowned as European Champion.

“It was absolutely a hard day, the competition day lasted nearly ten hours, but this sport. A lot of pressure, excitement and finally shot off. Anyway I’m so happy at the moment that I can’t find the right words to describe my feelings”, suspired new Champion.

“It is now time to celebrate with my family and friends. We do not have a team so I can relax tomorrow”, smiled Lucie and started to receive congrats.

After the first day Germany is leading the team competition with result 198, second is Italy (195) and on the third position is Cyprus who hit 190 clays. The team competition continues tomorrow.

I started my season in April. I wanted to keep the balance with training and family. It is important to relax and be in balance with your nearest people. The World Cups were not my main goals, they were only steps for this moment. I didn’t shoot well in those competitions but I was not nervous. They prepared me to this. Four weeks ago, I shot a final in practice and it went so well, then I knew that I can win the European Champion”, explained her preparation to the Championships new European Champion Monika Karsch.

NEPEJCHAL'S TRIUMPH IN RIFLE 3 POSITIONS MEN JUNIOR

The Rifle 3 Positions Men Junior Competition was a great Triumph of Filip Nepejchal. His beginning was very difficult. After the Kneeling, he was only in the 6th place. At prone he did not look going well at all while he dropped to 7th place at final. But when the last position (standing) started he started to turn also in different direction. Slowly but surely he was acting like a hunting puma who has seen an antelope.

After the first two 5 shot series Nepejchal has climbed already on 4th place. Zalan Pekler was leading in that point with result 401.8. Russian Andrei Golokov was second with the difference 1.1 point and French Emelian Chassat was only 0.3 points behind Golokov and fourth Nepejchal and Finnish Cristian Friman with same result 400.2.

In the next shot Nepecjchal managed to hit 10.5 and took the lead with same result as Golokov (410.7). Two careless victims were eaten. Next shot and Golokov and Nepejchal shoot both 9.9. Then Nepejchal starts to hit tens 10.5. – 10.8 – and the last 10.1. Hungarian Pekler beat finally also Golokov.

“In the beginning of the kneeling, my shooting was very bad and difficult while I didn’t find a good position. It was also same in prone position, but in standing my shooting started to settle down and then the hits came better. I’m very happy but I use to go step by step. From here it is good to continue, of course the goal is in Olympic Games”, told Filip “the Great” Nepejchal.

The European Champion travels to Czech Republic with result 452.0.

In the Team Competition, the best was Russian Federation with result 3431. Silver medal team Czech Republic 3424 and bronze team Finland 3420. The Gold team consisted of Andrei Golokov (1150), Evgenly Ishchenko (1142) and Artem Filipov (1139).

Mixed gender team events will be staged at the 2017 ISSF World Cup Final in New Delhi

ISSF World Cup Final Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun · New Delhi, IND
The ISSF will showcase the new Tokyo 2020 events at this year’s ISSF World Cup Final, inviting the best teams who participated in the tests organized during the world cup season.
In an effort to offer an additional opportunity to compete in the new Mixed Team events, the ISSF — in collaboration with the Organizing Committee of the 2017 ISSF World Cup Final in New Delhi (IND) — announced that mixed team events will be organized also at this year’s World Cup Final.

The new 10m Air Rifle, 10m Air Pistol and Trap Mixed Team events were proposed by the ISSF, accepted by the IOC Executive Committee, and approved by the ISSF Extraordinary General Assembly for inclusion in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Programme. The step follows the guidelines of IOC Agenda 2020, embracing gender equality at sport level.

This year, test competitions in the three new mixed gender team events were conducted at two ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol stages and at three ISSF World Cup Shotgun stages. Furthermore, a Trap mixed gender team competition will be staged at the 2017 ISSF Shotgun World Championship in Moscow (RUS) in September.

In a move to ensure as many chances as possible to showcase the new events, the ISSF decided to include them in the 2017 World Cup Final program.

The four best 10m Air Rifle and 10m Air Pistol teams out of each of the two Rifle/Pistol test events will be selected to participate in the World Cup Final in New Delhi. The two best Trap teams out of each of the three shotgun world cup test events will be qualified, along with the three medal-winning teams of the forthcoming ISSF Shotgun World Championship in Moscow.

All teams will be invited in New Delhi, at the same conditions of the other athletes qualified in the individual events. The complete results of the 2017 test events are available here for 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team10m Air Pistol Mixed Team and Trap Mixed Team.

This is a good-will act of the ISSF, which aims at maximizing media exposure, foster international recognition and offer a testing opportunity for the new events, that will become part of the ISSF competitions program in 2018, after the approval of the provisional regulations by the ISSF Administrative Council, later this year.

ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Raña said:

“Mixed Gender Team event represents a fundamental step forward for Shooting. They represent who we are now: an inclusive sport with strong grassroots, bounded to its long-standing traditions, but at the same time evolving in line with the Olympic principles. The inclusion of these new events in the Olympic Programme of Tokyo 2020 set a new milestone in the history of the ISSF.”

“The ISSF Extraordinary General Assembly held in Munich on the 25th of June approved the new events, as the IOC Executive Committee did. Now it’s time to implement these decisions, and boost the three events. The ISSF World Cup Final has always been the highlight of our seasons, and it’s the right place to showcase Mixed Gender Team events. All athletes will be invited by the Organizing Committee, and the winners will have a chance to defend their titles at next year’s ISSF World Cup Final. It’s an exciting new page.”

Latest ISSF Athletes bulletin released

The Athletes Committee will be having its annual meetings in November 2017. Committee Chairman Bindra invites all athletes to send in their thoughts and suggestions on various issues relating to our sport.

Dear Friends,
Greetings from the Athletes Committee. The Athletes Committee will be having its annual meetings in November 2017 and we invite you to send in your thoughts and suggestions on various issues relating to our sport.
In specific, some important aspects requiring your input are:
1) Mixed Team Events - while the system and format (qualifying-semifinal-medal match) for these is in place we look forward to any feedback you might have for presentation and procedure based on the experiences so far. Do let us know if you have any thoughts on how these could be further improved upon.
2) Review of the 2017 Season - please send us your input on the conduct of the World Cups this year and suggestions to further improve the athlete experience. The feedback received will be presented to the Organizers Workshop.
3) Parity of Shots - Over the years, several petitions were received from women athletes to the ISSF leadership requesting that women get to shoot the same number of shots in all events as men. The ISSF felt that this was an appropriate time to further this discussion, especially in the backdrop of the IOC Agenda 2020. The ISSF Executive Committee and Administrative Council unanimously voted in favor of investigating this possibility. The Athletes Committee reached out to several athletes during the World Cups for feedback. We once again request all women athletes to please participate in these discussions by sending us your thoughts. Initial discussions with athletes have been very positive. We would welcome your feedback on this for all the events 10m, 50m, RT and shotgun, keeping in mind that 25m is already equal regarding number of shots. Please note that this is being considered not only for the Olympic events but all ISSF events and your feedback is important.
4) Forum for the Future Olympic Program - on the request of the Athletes Committee, the ISSF President recently announced the creation of a forum to discuss the future Olympic program. The idea is to involve all stakeholders actively in the decision making process regarding the Olympic program. This is most definitely a very positive development and we welcome your ideas regarding the current Olympic events and new events as well as qualification programs which can be communicated to the forum.
Friends, on behalf of the Athletes Committee, I encourage you to participate actively in matters concerning our sport and request you to send us your feedback. The goal has always been to make the athletes the heart of all decision making at the ISSF and this will not be possible without your involvement, feedback and input.
ABHINAV BINDRA
Chairman, ISSF Athletes Committee

Indian shooting has depth, mixed events will be advantage: Abhinav Bindra to India Today

Twitter Photo
Abhinav Bindra is confident the depth in Indian shooting will not only ensure they adapt to changes but believes it will be an advantage.
Abhinav Bindra may have quit professional shooting but now serving in some decision making capacities, India's Olympic legend still remains at centre stage for the shooting world.
As the chairman of the athletes commission of the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) Bindra-led governing body recommended converting three men's Olympic medal events into mixed events. Bindra has lost many friends in the process.
"The change was mandated by the international body and was always going to be a difficult change. Nobody likes changes. Athletes hate changes, I would as well. But when you are trying to make hard decisions and ones which are tough for sport, you will never win the popularity contest," an unfazed Bindra told India Today.
With men's 50-metre free pistol, 50-metre rifle prone and double trap dropped from the Olympic program and replaced with mixed doubles events there have been voices of dissent coming from affected shooters. But defending the changes Bindra says, "You have to keep personal ambitions and biases aside and take a decision which is for the good of the sport, which is evident by the recent general assembly called by shooting federations where 249 voted for the changes and there were 2 against. It pretty much has universal acceptance once you understand the reasons behind it and why it was necessary."
Following the changes, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) achieves it objective of gender equality with nine gold medals each for men and women in shooting for Tokyo 2020. But Bindra has had to deal with criticism at home as well of it affecting India's medal prospects. The 50 meter pistol was India's top Olympic prospect Jitu Rai's pet event. Rajyavardhan Rathore kick started India's rise in shooting by winning silver at Athens 2004 in double trap. The prone event has seen the likes of Gagan Narang and Joydeep Karmakar winning medals at international events.
Bindra responds by reminding the critics his brief wasn't to protect India's interest. "My role as chair of international committee of athletes of ISSF was not to take a decision which would be only better for India. It was one for good of sport that was my mandate and that's what we tried to do," he states.
The shooting great is however confident the depth in Indian shooting will not only ensure they adapt to changes but believes it will be an advantage. "Indian shooting has a lot of depth and with time and people getting adjusted with the format am sure they will do well. The mixed team event is one that I am sure will be an advantage for us. It needs time, patience and whether you like it or you don't you have to adapt," he says matter of factly.
Jitu Rai and Heena Sidhu, two of India's best pistol shooters winning the mixed pistol test event recently at ISSF World Cup signals good beginnings. Bindra does not read too much in the win but is quietly confident Indian shooters will soon have a grip over things.  "I followed it a little bit. Mixed team events are still at a test stage. Still Grand Prix events at the World Cup and not quite world events. Next year will be more interesting because people will know it's a reality and everybody will take it up seriously with Olympic medals at stake. But I am sure our boys and girls will do well," he says with optimism.
