High participation at the Trap Mixed Teams event test in Larnaka, won by Team Spain

Test Event - Medal Matches Trap Mixed Team

ISSF World Cup Shotgun · Larnaka, CYP

The new event recommended by the ISSF for inclusion in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic program has been tested at all ISSF World Cup Stages, this year.
32 Teams from 21 countries participated in the Trap Mixed Teams event test organized on the last day of the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Larnaka, Cyprus, today.

Teams are made of both a men and a woman from the same country, competing shoulder and shoulder through a 50-target qualification round (25 targets for each team member). After the qualifications, the top-6 teams advance to the semi-finals, that are then followed by a Bronze and a Gold medal match.

It was team Spain (Alberto Fernandez – Fatima Galvez) that finished atop of the podium, beating team Italy (Valerio Grazini – Alessia Iezzi) in the Gold medal match, with a combined score of 43 to 36 hits out of 50 targets.

In the Bronze medal match, team San Marino (Gian Marco Berti – Alessandra Perilli) prevailed over team Finland 2 (Mirka Kyyronen - Marika Salmi), 39 to 37 hits.

Team Slovakia (Zuzana Rehak Stefecekova – Marian Kovacocy) and team China 2 (Zhang Xiaoqian – XU Weichao) closed the semi-finals in 5th and 6th place, with a score of 24 and 22 hits, respectively.

High participation proved the great interest surrounding the new event, which was proposed by the ISSF for inclusion in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic program in an effort to meet IOC Agenda 2020 recommendations, including the important principle of gender equality. Mixed Team events tests have been staged at all three ISSF Shotgun World Cups of the season, in New Delhi (IND), Acapulco (MEX) and here in Larnaka, and have been included in the official program of the 2017 ISSF Shotgun World Championship to be held in Moscow (RUS) from August 30 through September 11.
